Your first visit
1st Family Dental of Addison always welcomes new patients and offers a discount on checkups and cleanings for first-time visitors to our conveniently-located office. Our office is open on evenings and Saturdays to accommodate the schedules of families and working professionals.
A basic checkup performed at our office includes X-rays, an oral exam, and a complete cleaning. From there, our team will make a plan for any other work that might be needed to get your smile in tip-top shape. This might include restorative dentistry, orthodontics, or cosmetic procedures.
We recommend a minimum of two visits per year to keep your teeth clean and healthy. Regular cleanings allow us to monitor ongoing issues like tooth decay and gum disease and detect more serious problems like oral cancer. When we can detect these problems early, treatment is easier and cheaper than when symptoms are detected once it’s too late.
Outside of regular cleaning appointments, you can help your overall dental health by committing to brushing your teeth twice daily and flossing once daily. Doing that will make cleanings go much more smoothly and lessen the likelihood of more serious problems.
Extraction services
In addition to cleaning and routine dental care, 1st Family Dental of Addison can perform in-office dental extractions. There are many reasons that a tooth may need to be removed, including overcrowding, infection, and gum disease.
No matter what the circumstance, we’ll do our best to ensure that the affected tooth is removed quickly and with minimal discomfort. A topical anesthetic is typically used for single tooth extractions, while general anesthesia may be needed for procedures involving multiple teeth. The dentist will determine which course of action is best for your situation.
We can also perform some types of wisdom teeth extractions in our office, or provide referrals to trusted and reputable oral surgeons in the area if needed.
Once the extraction is complete, our team will provide you with take-home instructions to help you are for the affected area, prescribe pain medication as needed, and schedule a follow-up appointment to ensure that everything is healing properly.
Gum disease treatment
Gum disease is a common dental issue that affects about 50 percent of adults in the U.S. It starts as the highly treatable gingivitis, but if left untreated, can develop into the more serious periodontitis. If left untreated for long periods of time, the gums begin to recede, causing teeth to loosen and fall out.
A dental deep cleaning is the first line of defense for treating gum disease. This procedure involves removing plaque and tartar from teeth above and below the gumline. Our team does this through manual scraping and laser treatment in more severe cases.
Beyond these cleaning procedures, the team at 1st Family Dental can recommend medications and/or surgical options to treat more advanced forms of gum disease.
We can also help you evaluate your lifestyle to find factors like smoking or diet that could be contributing to gum disease. Once those areas are identified, we’ll work with you to determine how you might alter your lifestyle to achieve a healthier mouth.
