Dental Implants: Permanent Tooth Replacement Option
Losing teeth can be an embarrassing and potentially dangerous dental issue. Not only is it aesthetically unpleasing, but it makes your mouth more vulnerable to serious issues. Even if the missing tooth isn’t visible when you smile, it should be replaced as soon as possible. The most common replacement option is a dental implant. Implants consist of a titanium post covered by a crown or denture.
1st Family Dental of Addison offers several implant options that can get your mouth looking and feeling back to normal in no time.
Implant in a Day: Don’t Wait, Leave with a New Tooth
The standard implant process typically takes about three weeks to complete. A titanium post is inserted into the mouth where the tooth had been, then a crown or denture is added over it.
If you are looking for a quicker solution, 1st Family Dental offers Implant in a Day — a service that includes the placement of a temporary crown, which allows you to leave the office feeling like your tooth is back to normal. The temporary crown remains in place while your permanent crown is being made in the lab.
When the permanent crown is ready, we’ll schedule an appointment to replace the temporary crown. By that time, your mouth will have adjusted to the crown and the transition from temporary to permanent will be seamless.
However, just because the permanent crown is in place doesn’t mean that it needs to stay as-is. We are always happy to perform adjustments that may be needed as your teeth and bite continue to shift.
Overdentures: Dentures and Implants
If you are missing more than one or two teeth, overdentures may prove to be a better solution than doing all implants. Implant overdentures utilize the latest in dental technology to make dentures feel more similar to your natural teeth. While traditional dentures are held in place using temporary adhesives, overdentures are held in place in your mouth by more permanent implants that are placed in your upper and/or lower jaw. The dentures then connect to the implants in order to firmly hold the dentures in place. This creates a set of dentures that are less likely to shift around in your mouth — making chewing, talking, and other activities easier and more comfortable.
In addition to increased comfort, implant overdentures also maintain the integrity of your jaw bone over time. The loss of jaw shape and structure over time is a common problem among denture wearers. As you wear the overdentures, the implant posts will integrate with your jaw bone and mimic the roots of your natural teeth.
All On 6 Approach: Full Mouth Restoration Solution
For the best of both worlds, the All on 6 procedure combines implants and overdentures in a surgical procedure that’s one of the quickest ways to replace missing teeth.
The procedure is performed under general anesthesia and involves installation of six implants throughout the mouth and immediate placement of overdentures all at once. The result is a completely new set of teeth that are ready and waiting to be used.
Using traditional implants to replace an entire set of teeth typically requires about 12 implants, jaw bone grafting, and at least 6 months of healing before your mouth is ready for overdentures. With All On 6, the implants and temporary dentures are installed at the same time and permanent dentures are ready within 3-6 months.
If you have lost or are all about to lose most or all of your teeth, All On 6 may be a good option for you. Schedule a consultation with 1st Family Dental to determine if you are a candidate for this unique procedure.
